Advanced Price Action — Complete Guide
Master advanced Price Action concepts: institutional order flow, multi-timeframe narrative, advanced liquidity engineering, and professional PA frameworks.
Advanced Price Action Concepts
Advanced Price Action goes beyond basic patterns and levels to understand the institutional narrative — why price moves the way it does, who is moving it, and how to align with institutional order flow.
The Institutional Narrative
Price doesn't move randomly. Institutions:
1. Accumulate positions during consolidation
2. Engineer liquidity sweeps to fill large orders
3. Create displacement (expansion) to deliver price
4. Distribute positions at target levels
5. Repeat the cycle
Your job: Identify WHERE in this cycle price currently is.
Advanced Concepts
1. Liquidity Engineering
- Equal highs/lows are deliberately created by institutions
- They serve as targets (liquidity pools to fill into)
- Understanding this prevents being the victim of stop hunts
2. Time-Based Analysis
- Institutions operate on specific timeframes (quarterly, monthly, weekly)
- Monthly candle open/close = major S/R
- Weekly bias determines daily direction
- Quarterly shifts create major trends
3. Premium vs. Discount
In a bullish trend:
- Above 50% of range = PREMIUM (expensive to buy)
- Below 50% of range = DISCOUNT (cheap to buy)
Smart money buys at DISCOUNT, sells at PREMIUM
Retail does the opposite (buys high, sells low)
Rule: Only enter longs in discount, shorts in premium
4. Displacement
- Displacement = aggressive impulsive candle creating FVG
- Shows institutional commitment to a direction
- Use as confirmation of intentions
- Enter on retracement to displacement FVG
5. Mitigation vs. Origination
- Fresh (unmitigated) Order Blocks are strongest
- Once price returns to an OB and reacts = mitigated
- Mitigated OBs lose significance
- Always trade fresh, unmitigated levels
Building the Full Narrative
1. WEEKLY: Where is the draw on liquidity? (Target)
2. DAILY: What is the delivery mechanism? (Trend)
3. H4: Where are the POIs? (Order Blocks, FVGs)
4. H1: What is the narrative today? (Session bias)
5. M15: Where is the entry? (Confirmation + timing)
This top-down approach gives you:
- Direction from HTF
- Zones from mid-TF
- Entries from LTF
Professional PA Trading Rules
- Always know the weekly draw on liquidity
- Only trade in the direction of institutional delivery
- Wait for discount/premium alignment
- Only enter at unmitigated POIs
- Use time (session analysis) as additional filter
- Risk management overrides everything
- Journal every trade — review weekly
