Spinning Top — Complete Guide
Master the Spinning Top indecision pattern. Learn when it signals reversal potential and when it's just noise.
What is a Spinning Top?
A Spinning Top has a small body with wicks on both sides of roughly equal length. Similar to a Doji but with a slightly larger body. It represents indecision with a slight lean.
Identification
- Small real body (any color)
- Upper and lower wicks roughly equal
- Body about 1/3 of total range
- Wicks about 2/3 of total range
Psychology
- Both buyers and sellers were active but neither won decisively
- The body shows a slight directional lean
- After a trend = warning of exhaustion
- In a range = just noise, no signal
Trading Rules
- Not a standalone signal — needs context and confirmation
- At resistance after uptrend + spinning top = potential bearish reversal
- At support after downtrend + spinning top = potential bullish reversal
- Confirm with next candle direction
- Use as additional confluence, not primary signal
