What is the Morning Star?
The Morning Star is a 3-candle bullish reversal pattern that forms at the bottom of a downtrend. It signals the transition from selling pressure to buying pressure across three distinct phases.
Structure
Candle 1: Large bearish (trend continuation)
Candle 2: Small body/doji (indecision - the "star")
Candle 3: Large bullish (reversal confirmation)

Rules
| Candle | Requirement |
|---|---|
| C1 | Large bearish candle (confirms existing downtrend) |
| C2 | Small body (doji, spinning top) — gaps down preferred |
| C3 | Large bullish candle that closes into or above C1's body |
| Location | At support, demand zone, or after clear downtrend |
Psychology
- C1: Sellers still in control, pushing price down aggressively
- C2: Selling pressure exhausted — indecision, neither side wins
- C3: Buyers take over aggressively, erasing much of C1's loss
- Three-phase transition: Control → Indecision → New control
Trading
- Entry: Above C3's high (confirmed) or at C3 close (moderate)
- Stop: Below C2's low (the star)
- Target: Next resistance or 1:2 R:R minimum
- Stronger when C3 closes above C1's midpoint
