Inducement
Master Inducement — the subtle trap Smart Money creates within pullbacks to lure retail traders into false entries before sweeping them for Liquidity.
Definition
Inducement is a minor structural break within a pullback designed to lure retail traders into premature entries. It's a small BOS or swing point break that looks like a valid entry but is actually a TRAP to build Liquidity that Smart Money will sweep before the real move.
Think of Inducement as "bait" — it creates a false sense of confirmation that tricks traders into entering, only for their Stop Losses to be taken shortly after.
How Inducement forms:
- In a bullish trend, during a pullback, price briefly breaks a minor low → Retail thinks "bearish continuation" and sells
- OR price breaks a minor high within the pullback → Retail thinks "bullish continuation" and buys early
- Smart Money then sweeps these new Stop Losses before delivering the true move
Why It Matters
- Inducement explains WHY your "valid" setups get stopped out before working
- It creates the Liquidity that Smart Money needs for the REAL entry
- Recognizing Inducement keeps you OUT of losing trades
- The sweep of Inducement is often your TRUE high-probability entry signal
- It separates patient, professional traders from impulsive retail traders
How It Works
Bullish Trend Inducement (During Pullback):
- Price is in a bullish trend (HH/HL)
- Price begins pulling back (normal retracement)
- Within the pullback, price breaks a MINOR low → Creates a small "bearish BOS"
- Retail traders see this mini-BOS and enter Short (or early buyers get stopped)
- Their Stop Losses are placed above the broken low = New Liquidity ABOVE
- Smart Money sweeps this Liquidity (takes their stops)
- Price then continues the ACTUAL bullish move
Bearish Trend Inducement (During Pullback):
- Price is in a bearish trend (LH/LL)
- Price begins pulling back (retracing up)
- Within the pullback, price breaks a MINOR high → Creates a small "bullish BOS"
- Retail traders enter Long, their stops placed below
- Smart Money sweeps these stops
- Price then continues the actual bearish move

Institutional Logic
Why Smart Money creates Inducement:
- Additional Liquidity — The pullback alone doesn't provide enough counterparty orders
- Better entry price — By sweeping Inducement, they enter slightly deeper in Discount
- Eliminate weak hands — Traders who entered too early get stopped out (less competition)
- Create panic — The minor break makes the pullback look like a reversal, creating more sellers
- Perfect timing — Inducement sweep often coincides with Kill Zone entry windows
The psychology:
- Retail trader sees minor BOS in pullback → "The trend is reversing! I'll sell!"
- Smart Money sees: "Excellent. More stops for me to fill against. Wait for Kill Zone, sweep, enter."
Trading Application
Identifying Inducement:
- Look at pullbacks within a clear trend
- Mark MINOR swing points within the pullback (not the major trend structure)
- If a minor swing gets broken during the pullback = INDUCEMENT
- DON'T trade this minor break — it's bait
Using Inducement for Entry:
- Identify the trend (bullish/bearish on HTF)
- Wait for pullback to begin
- Watch for Inducement to form (minor structural break within pullback)
- Wait for Inducement to be SWEPT (price takes out the stops created by Inducement)
- After sweep → Look for MSS on LTF confirming trend continuation
- Enter at the PD Array (OB/FVG) formed after the Inducement sweep
- Stop Loss: Beyond the sweep of Inducement
- Target: Next major structural high/low (Liquidity)
Red flags that it's Inducement (NOT real reversal):
- The break is very small (internal structure only, not major swing)
- It occurs within a CLEAR HTF trend
- No significant displacement on the break
- Happens before a Kill Zone (building Liquidity for the real move)
- The "break" is against the HTF bias
Common Mistakes
- ❌ Trading every minor BOS as a new entry — Minor BOS within pullbacks = Inducement
- ❌ Not distinguishing internal vs external structure — External BOS = Real. Internal = Possible Inducement
- ❌ Getting impatient and entering at Inducement level — Wait for it to be swept
- ❌ Placing stops right at Inducement levels — Smart Money WILL take them
- ❌ Ignoring Inducement and wondering why stops keep getting hit — Learn to wait
Advanced Notes
- Inducement always forms within PD Arrays — It's built inside Order Blocks and FVG zones
- Multiple Inducements — Sometimes 2-3 form in a single pullback before the real entry
- Inducement on multiple TFs — A 15M Inducement within a 4H pullback is textbook
- Speed of Inducement creation — Faster formation = more likely to be swept soon
- Inducement + OTE Zone — When Inducement aligns with 62-79% Fib = highest probability
- Failed Inducement sweep (price doesn't sweep it) — May indicate the pullback is becoming a genuine reversal
Example
EUR/USD — Bullish Inducement Sweep Entry:
- HTF: Daily bullish (HH/HL). Price pulling back
- 4H Pullback: Price retraces from 1.0920 to 1.0860 zone
- Inducement: Within pullback, 15M shows a minor low at 1.0875 being broken → Price makes new low at 1.0868
- Retail reaction: Traders who sold at 1.0868 placed SL above 1.0878 = Inducement Liquidity
- Sweep: During London KZ, price drops to 1.0855 (sweeps the Inducement + deeper SSL)
- MSS: 5M Bullish CHOCH at 1.0865
- Entry: Buy at 1.0860 (Bullish OB formed after sweep)
- Stop Loss: 1.0850 (below sweep extreme)
- Target: 1.0920+ (BSL above — previous high)
- R:R: 1:6.0, +60 pips
